Dear Bookworm,

Quick question:
Is it normal to read one poem and suddenly become… a poetry person?

Because I read like 12 lines and now I’m dramatically staring out the window like I’ve just experienced heartbreak in the 1800s. The breeze hits a little different. The trees feel symbolic. I wrote down the word “longing” three times and I’m not even sure why.

Also, why does every poem feel like it’s about something very deep that I almost understand? I reread it, nod thoughtfully, and go, “Yes… yes, of course,” while understanding approximately 60% at best.

Sincerely,
Emotionally Affected by Line Breaks

Dear Emotionally Affected,

Ah yes—you’ve entered your poetry era. It happens fast and without warning.

Poetry has a special talent for making us feel profound, slightly mysterious, and just dramatic enough to enjoy it. It turns ordinary moments into moments, and suddenly you’re noticing sunsets, raindrops, and your own thoughts like they deserve a standing ovation.

So this month, have fun with it. Read a poem. Pretend you fully get it. Maybe even write one yourself (bonus points for using the word “moon” at least once). There are no rules—just vibes.

And when you’re ready to fully embrace your poetic main character moment, the library has plenty waiting for you.

Snapping appreciatively,
Dear Bookworm
