Dear Bookworm,

Something strange is happening at the library.

Every time I walk past the mystery section, I hear a book fall off the shelf. When I put it back, another one mysteriously appears on the table. Yesterday, I found a bookmark in a book I had never checked out—and I’m almost certain I heard someone whisper, “Read me…”

Should I be worried?

With Halloween approaching, I’m beginning to wonder if our library has a ghostly reader of its own. Perhaps a former patron who simply refuses to stop reading? If so, I hope they have good taste in books.

What should I do? Investigate the mysterious happenings, call a ghost hunter, or simply grab the book and start reading?

Sincerely,

Spooked in the Stacks

Dear Spooked in the Stacks,

First, remain calm. Second, do not call a ghost hunter until you’ve checked whether the library staff are responsible for the mysterious book movement!

But if the strange happenings continue, I recommend embracing the mystery. After all, Halloween is the perfect time for a little suspense.

Come to the library, choose a spooky mystery, turn down the lights, and settle into a cozy chair. If you hear footsteps behind you, don’t panic. If you hear a book fall from the shelf, investigate. And if a ghostly voice tells you to read a particular book…

You should probably listen.

After all, you never know when the perfect Halloween read might find you.

Happy haunting—and happy reading!

Sincerely,

Bookworm
